A Reddit post claims that on Saturday morning, 3 January 2026, a wave of AI-generated images and videos appeared online showing an American-led operation in Venezuela. Clips of President Nicolás Maduro in handcuffs, crowds in Caracas, and US troops landing reportedly spread across X, Instagram, and TikTok within minutes. According to the post, much of this “footage” didn’t exist – it was synthetic media. The result: confusion over whether a coup was unfolding in real time.

Whether or not the described events prove accurate in every detail (not disclosed), the underlying point is hard to ignore. AI-made media is now fast, photorealistic, and persuasive at scale. As the author puts it:
